Have you ever been in a kitchen that is NOT well-designed? Maybe the appliances are spread too far apart or are too close together. Sometimes I hear, "We just don't have enough counter space," or "The tile is so outdated.”

Today I will be sharing 5 kitchen features that replace the older, dysfunctional features and update the kitchen for today's buyers.

1. Include a Built-In Bar or Beverage Center

I love creating kitchens that have their own designated bar or beverage centers. Kitchens are definitely a social spot for entertaining guests these days. A lot of us don't want our guests running back and forth to the fridge a million times. Having a designated beverage center keeps not only looks aesthetically pleasing and luxurious but also keeps your kitchen more organized.

2. Create Space for an Island or Breakfast Nook

Kitchen islands or nooks alter the experience in the kitchen. Older kitchen designs didn't incorporate these areas like they do today. It was usually a kitchen with an attached dining room. Consider opening up that wall that separates these spaces. Incorporate an island with counter stools to make your space feel larger and more welcoming.

3. Add in the Latest in Kitchen Technology

With advanced technology, kitchens have really come a long way! I absolutely love integrating touch faucets, smart multi-functional appliances, and voice-commanding features to elevate the experience in my client's homes.

4. Update Lighting from Simple to Statement-Making

If you are one of my clients, you know that I am CRAZY about lighting! Lighting is one thing that can quickly bring you into this decade if everything else fails! I love using value engineering with lighting! On a budget? Go less expensive on your cabinets with a basic shaker and definitely splurge a little on the lighting to really make a statement.

5. Add Color for Character and Charm

Color has an emotional impact on buyers and/or homeowners. It can make your kitchen brighter, happier, and more appealing to your guests! Here are a few ways to tastefully bring color to your design.

Breaking up the all-white kitchen is here. Try adding a pop of clor to your island cabinetry. The most popular colors we are seeing are various shades of blues and greens. Feeling brave? Try black for a more dramatic feel. Colorful accent walls are also on the rise. I love incorporating some fun wallpaper or colorful tile to the backsplash to bring in another layer of color.

I'd love to help you with your kitchen updates! Leave a comment below.

Xoxo,

Jeanelle
